As much as the words can be mistaken for something similar, there is distinction between signs and symbols, with signs being a replacement for some objects, but symbols being much deeper than that along with providing a connection and meaning for us to respond towards it. Sacraments are signs of God’s grace that have been instituted by Christ with the intention of uniting humans with God and receiving Him. However, the sacraments need to be taken as ore than signs, because it is more than the visible grace of God, as it is a symbol, the invisible aspect of the connection that is needed to be made.
